今年有140萬人參加了1月9日進行的2010年碩士研究生統(tǒng)一入學考試。這項考試在就業(yè)“寒流”中繼續(xù)升溫，報考人數(shù)創(chuàng)下2001年以來最高紀錄，比上年增長13%。

　　一年一度的全國研究生入學考試于上周六進行。今年參加考試的考生共有140萬，比2009年增加了13%。

　　在上面的報道中，national post-graduate entrance examination就是“全國研究生入學考試”，也可以用postgraduate qualification exam來表示。“考研”就是take part in the national post-graduate entrance examination / postgraduate qualification exam。也有部分學生是不需要參加國家研究生入學考試就能上研的，因為他們獲得了“保研”(postgraduate recommendation)資格。

　　要被錄取為研究生，首先要通過國家研究生入學考試，這是qualifying examination / preliminary exam(初試)，在過線之后才能參加secondary examination(復試)，復試一般包括written examination(筆試)和oral examination(口試)或interview(面試)。在錄取之后，根據(jù)成績的高低，又分為government-supported graduate student(公費研究生)和self-supporting graduate student(自費研究生)。部分研究生是邊工作邊學習，此類研究生即on-the-job postgraduate student.
