　　在上節(jié)課中，我們學(xué)習(xí)了下屬是如何向上級(jí)匯報(bào)關(guān)于新產(chǎn)品投放市場(chǎng)前促銷宣傳的情況的， 在本課中我們將繼續(xù)聽到Michael 先生對(duì)于原計(jì)劃不能執(zhí)行的解釋，同時(shí)請(qǐng)大家注意上下級(jí)關(guān)系是怎樣在談話中體現(xiàn)出來(lái)的，并注意上級(jí)詢問(wèn)下屬時(shí)所用的語(yǔ)氣和句型。

　　在上一課中，Michael向老板解釋他們遇到困難的原因在于，將產(chǎn)品向全國(guó)市場(chǎng)投放，就需要增加產(chǎn)量，而這比預(yù)計(jì)的要困難。對(duì)此解釋，Bill是這樣回答的：

　　B: That's ridiculous. We had no problems with production during the test market phase.

　　M: I know, but that was on a much smaller scale. It seems that they've run into difficulties with the tooling for the machines.

　　B: I want you to tell me where we stand.

　　從老板的言辭中可以看出來(lái)他有些不滿了，首先他用了ridiculous這個(gè)表示"荒唐的、可笑的"的詞，可見他無(wú)法理解出現(xiàn)了什么問(wèn)題：

　　We have no problems with production during the test market phase.

　　(在市場(chǎng)測(cè)試階段，生產(chǎn)毫無(wú)問(wèn)題)

　　面對(duì)老板的不理解，Michael趕緊進(jìn)行了回答。

　　首先說(shuō)明那個(gè)時(shí)候是on a small scale(小規(guī)模的)，然后說(shuō)：

　　run into difficulties with the machines.

　　(機(jī)器方面出現(xiàn)了一些困難)

　　這里的run into就表示"陷入"，比如，我們經(jīng)常聽到某家公司"陷入債務(wù)危機(jī)"，就是： run into debts.

　　但是老板一般是不愿意聽理由的， Bill說(shuō)：

　　I want you to tell me where we stand.

　　這里的stand可不是表示"站著"，而是表示"處在……狀態(tài)"，相當(dāng)于說(shuō)：

　　what the position is?

　　(我們的情況如何?)

　　這句話可以明顯地表現(xiàn)出Bill 在發(fā)火，但他卻是含而不露，"逼"著Michael把話說(shuō)完。

　　M: At the moment, we are working on some new promotion literature, which will be used in the shops. Besides the launch advertising and promotion campaign, we are going to hold both national and local press conferences so that we maximize the media coverage during the launch phase.

　　B: Right, I must go now, but keep me up-to-date with developments.

　　M: I certainly will.

　　Michael趕緊說(shuō)"現(xiàn)在我們正在準(zhǔn)備新的促銷宣傳資料，是為商店推銷而用的"，這里的promotion literature指的是"促銷宣傳資料"，literature代表的是"(廣告、宣傳等)印刷品"; 然后再提到一些即將實(shí)施的計(jì)劃：

　　hold both national and local press conferences.

　　(舉辦全國(guó)性和地區(qū)性新聞發(fā)布會(huì))

　　這里的press 指的就是"新聞、新聞界"，比如說(shuō)：

　　The press is concerned about this matter.

　　這些計(jì)劃的目的就是"在產(chǎn)品投放市場(chǎng)初期最大限度地覆蓋新聞媒介" maximize的意思就是"達(dá)到最高限度"，要注意的是media是名詞medium(媒介、媒體)的復(fù)數(shù)形式，而coverage則表示"(廣播、電視)的播放范圍"，所以

　　maximize the media coverage.

　　就是"最大限度地覆蓋新聞媒介"。

　　聽完了Michael的解釋，Bill說(shuō)：

　　keep me up-to-date with developments.

　　意思就是"隨時(shí)向我匯報(bào)新的進(jìn)展"。

　　up-to-date表示的就是"最新的、隨時(shí)隨地的"。 既然老板這樣吩咐，Michael當(dāng)然就得表示"一定照辦!"：

　　I certainly will.

　　好了，學(xué)完了這一段對(duì)話，你是否對(duì)市場(chǎng)初期的促銷活動(dòng)有了一定的了解呢?其實(shí)，"商場(chǎng)如戰(zhàn)場(chǎng)"，對(duì)產(chǎn)品的促銷可是一門大學(xué)問(wèn)。
