The chick and its shadow

    The cock was stricking his morning clock.The voice flew to the mother hen’s home.The little cock hurried to the grassland stretched his neck and clapped his wings.Oh,he was doing morning exercise.He suddenly found a shadow on the ground.And it was moving together with him.Oh who is it ? He was surprised and stopped .The shadow stopped too.Then the chick lift his foot and stretched it.The shadow just did the same things as he did.AH-ha, It is myself.The chick now understood. He tried to jump and found his shadow was now quite tall.He was very excited to find this.So he ran back home and cried.“Mum Mum I’ve grown tall. ” He just wanted his mum to be happy about this.But there was no answer .He pushed the door and came in. “Mum Mum”.Still there was no answer. “Oh,Mum is out. ”So the chick waited at home .He waited and waited.Mum wasn’t back yet. But it was time for lunch.So he went outside to have a look.He looked around. “Oh,Mum is coming back” .The little cock was very happy to see his Mum. So he went up to his mum and said excitedly. “Mum I have good news for you.I have grown much taller than before. You see.” Mother hen looked at his son curiously.She said : “ what are you talking about? You are taller?” The chick wangted mum to believe him so he pointed at his shadow and said: “Look at my shadow mum.”As he was speaking he found the shadow became very small and short. ”How strange? What happened?” He said to himself.He stopped for a second then he burst into tears. “Mum Mum Mum,why do I become so short now?” Mom understood now. She touched her son’s head. “My foolish baby don’t cry.You are neither taller nor shorter.It’s just the shadow of you. In the morning the sun is lower thus it makes a longer shadow. But at noon it shines over your head and makes a very short shadow. ” After he listened to his mother The chick understood and laughed too.The mother thought for a while and said to her son: “Now let’s go to the river and I’ll show you a reflection of you.It’s just the same size as you .” “Really?”The little cock asked. After a few minutes they reached the river .There was no wind at all. So the water was quiet and smooth like a mirror. The mother asked her son to look in the water.Another chick was there in the water.And it was looking at him.“ Mum the reflection is me,I’m that small.” “Yes my child. It’s you and it’s the reflection of you. You ‘re just that big .”The mother hen nodded and said.It can’t perform conjuring tricks like the sunshine.
