今天早上Larry 和李華和一對(duì)朋友Charles and Lisa約好一起打網(wǎng)球。李華
會(huì)學(xué)到兩個(gè)常用語(yǔ)：pumped和iffy.

    LL： I'm really pumped about today's tennis match. How about you，
Li Hua？

    LH：你對(duì)今天的比賽怎么啦？Pumped？你是不是在說(shuō)你很緊張？

    LL： No ， I'm not nervous. Pumped means energized and excited. I'm
looking forward to today's game because I think it will be a lot of fun.
LH：原來(lái)pumped是很興奮。對(duì)了，pump不是也有打氣的意思嗎？你是說(shuō)你打足了
氣，躍躍欲試的意思。

    LL： That's right ！ What about you ？ Aren't you pumped about the
game？

    LH：嗯，我是很期待這場(chǎng)比賽，不過(guò)，我可不敢說(shuō)我像你那樣pumped. 我對(duì)
體育沒(méi)有象你那樣感興趣。

    LL： Yeah ， I guess I get particularlypumped about sports. If sports
don't get you all that pumped up， then what does ？

    LH：我呀，我是一談起旅行就特別興奮。I'm pumped about travel.只要想
到要去旅行，我就非常興奮。明年暑假，我計(jì)劃要到溫哥華去玩一個(gè)星期。

    LL： You're pumped about going to Vancouver ？ What is there to do
in Vancouver？

    LH：到那兒去干什么？溫哥華有很多美麗的高山。景色一定很壯觀。還有那
里的野生動(dòng)物！我一想到有機(jī)會(huì)看到野生麋鹿我就特別興奮。Yes ， I'm pumped
about going to Vancouver.

    LL： Well ， I guess people get pumped about different things. Personally，
I don't get very excited about mountains and wild animals. LH ：我知道，
高山美景和野生動(dòng)物對(duì)你來(lái)說(shuō)沒(méi)有太大吸引力。還不如在網(wǎng)球場(chǎng)上打球來(lái)得過(guò)癮。

    LL： Hey， tennis is fun and it's good exercise.

    ******

    LH： Larry，剛才跟Charles 和Lisa一起打網(wǎng)球挺過(guò)癮的。對(duì)了，我差一點(diǎn)
忘了問(wèn)你，這個(gè)周末在麥迪遜廣場(chǎng)花園有一場(chǎng)職業(yè)網(wǎng)球賽。你想去看嗎？

    LL： I don't know. It's iffy that we'll even be able to get tickets.
Tickets for things like that sell out very quickly.

    LH：那倒也是，像這種熱門(mén)球賽的票八成已經(jīng)賣(mài)完了，所以你剛才說(shuō)iffy，
就是指我們“不太可能”買(mǎi)到票，是嗎？Iffy肯定是從if這個(gè)詞來(lái)的。

    LL： That's right. If something is "iffy" ，that means that it is
uncertain or even a little unlikely.

    LH：要是用iffy這個(gè)詞來(lái)形容什么事的話，那就是不肯定，不太可能。不過(guò)，
Larry ，我們還是可以試一試嗎。沒(méi)準(zhǔn)運(yùn)氣好，還有票呢！

    LL： Yeah ， but even if I can get tickets， it's iffy that we'll
be able to afford them. Tickets for games like that tend to be expensive，
too.

    LH：你說(shuō)門(mén)票可能很貴，我們可能買(mǎi)不起啊？Larry ，也許他們有半價(jià)的學(xué)
生票呢。我們?cè)囋嚳绰�，好不好�?/p>

    LL： Sure ， I'll call the ticket vendor this afternoon. But it's
iffy that they have half-priced tickets for students.

    LH：沒(méi)關(guān)系，如果真的買(mǎi)不到票，我們可以做別的事��！如果我們不能去看
職業(yè)選手打球，我們還可以找朋友去打嘛！

    LL： Speaking of which， wasn't that last game fun？ Do you think
Charles and Lisa would play with us again ？

    LH：對(duì)，跟Charles 和Lisa打的最后一場(chǎng)是真好玩！

    LL： But it's iffy that they'll want to play against us again.

    LH：他們不一定再想跟我們打球。那是為什么呀？

    LL：Can't you see ？ They were defeated by us every round. It's really
iffy that they had any fun this morning.

    LH：對(duì)了。老是輸球的話恐怕是沒(méi)有什么好玩。
