　　Dear primary school parents and families,

　　親愛的小學(xué)家長們：

　　It has been another productive and exciting two weeks at the primary school in Tianjin. The 2018 CCTV Star of Outlook competition has finally ended and what a competition it was! The first round of the competition began on the 12th of April with a total of 34 Haileybury primary school participants. Many were successful and advanced onto the next round. On the 12th of May, the Tianjin conference finals were held in Tianjin and we were glad to announce that 5 of our students received Tianjin first place prizes. Two of our students received the highest Tianjin honor possible because they were not only awarded special level prizes but they had also won their age divisions. These students were Hulk Zhang who won the Tianjin lower primary division and Jinny Guo who won the Tianjin upper primary division.

　　在天津黑利伯瑞國際學(xué)校的小學(xué)里，令人興奮和激動的兩周已經(jīng)過去了。 2018年CCTV希望之星比賽終于結(jié)束了，這是一場什么樣的比賽! 輪比賽于4月12日開始，共有34名小學(xué)生參加比賽。 5月12日，天津賽區(qū)總決賽在天津舉行，我們很高興地宣布，我們的5名學(xué)生獲得了天津市的一等獎(jiǎng)。 我們兩位學(xué)生獲得了最高榮譽(yù)，因?yàn)樗麄儾粌H獲得了特別獎(jiǎng)，而且還是在他們年齡分組內(nèi)。 Hulk張贏得了小低組的獎(jiǎng)項(xiàng)，Jinny郭贏得了小高組的獎(jiǎng)項(xiàng)。

　　Jinny Guo from year 4 won a first prize in the national CCTV competition.

　　Hulk and Jinny were given the opportunity to participate in the national CCTV finals on the 8th – 10th of June in Beijing. Thousands of the best English speakers from all over China took part in this competition. There were a total of four to five rounds in this elimination final. In the first round, Hulk dressed up as Thor and Jinny hosted her own children’s TV kid’s news program. They both spoke fluently and both scored highly. Both advanced onto the second round. In the second round, Hulk was given a picture of a muscular man and a thin man and was asked to make a story. Similarly, Jinny was given four pictures of four owls with four different feather colors and asked to create a story. Again, they were both successful and advanced onto the third round. In the third round, Hulk faced off against another opponent and was asked to debate on the topic of laptops. Hulk tried his best but was not able to advance onto the next stage. Jinny, however, won her third-round debate on the topic of online shopping and advanced onto the fourth stage which was on answering a series of judges’ questions. In the end, Jinny received 11th place in the upper primary age category which was just one place shy of entering the top ten and being on CCTV! Jinny was awarded a national first place prize and Hulk was awarded a second-place prize in the national competition. The staff and students at Haileybury Tianjin are so proud of the achievements of our students and we hope that we can do even better next year!

　　Hulk和Jinny有機(jī)會在6月8日至10日在北京參加全國總決賽。來自全國各地的數(shù)千名的英語人士參加了這場比賽。本次淘汰賽總決賽共有四到五輪。在輪中，Hulk裝扮成托爾和Jinny主持了自己的兒童電視的新聞節(jié)目。他們都表達(dá)流利，都得到高度評價(jià)。他們都晉級第二輪。在第二輪中，Hulk拿到了了一張肌肉男和一個(gè)瘦男人的照片，并要求寫一個(gè)故事。同樣，珍妮給了四張四種不同羽毛顏色的貓頭鷹圖片，并要求創(chuàng)建一個(gè)故事。他們再次成功并晉級第三輪。在第三輪中，Hulk面對另一個(gè)對手，被要求就筆記本電腦的話題進(jìn)行辯論。Hulk盡力而為，但沒有進(jìn)入到下一輪的比賽。然而，Jinny贏得了關(guān)于以網(wǎng)絡(luò)購物為主題的第三輪辯論，并進(jìn)入了第四階段，這輪回答了一系列評委提出的問題。最終，Jinny在小學(xué)高年級中獲得第11名，但是只有進(jìn)入前十名才可以上電視!Jinny獲得全國一等獎(jiǎng)，Hulk在全國比賽中獲得二等獎(jiǎng)。天津黑利伯瑞的員工和學(xué)生為我們學(xué)生所獲的成就感到自豪，我們希望明年能夠做得更好!

　　Hulk Zhang from year 3 won a second prize in the national CCTV competition.

　　"Read thousands of books” and “walk tens of thousands of miles" are two important proverbs in Chinese culture. To understand and apply these two proverbs, our students took part in the foreign children's swimming invitational tournament held in Shanghai. On June the 8th, a team of 15 athletes from grade 1 to grade 7, the Haileyburians, boarded the speed train and began their journey. Before the races began, on June 9, our youngest member - Guo yanze, encouraged by his team's teacher, bravely stood on the glass walkway more than 500 meters above the ground on the Pearl Tower. On June the 10th, the swimming heats began. Swimmers from different teams competed and our students swam with great fighting spirit. We swam well and did not disappoint. In the evening, all the teachers and students celebrated Bob’s 10th birthday on a cruise ship. All the students had unforgettable memories. Before leaving for school on June the 11th, the team went to Madame Tussauds wax museum and took photos with their heroes and stars. On the four-day trip, our Haileybury students showed humility and displayed order. We were praised by onlookers and upheld the name and honor of our school – Haileybury magenta purple. Many thanks to Ms. Wei and Mr. Xu for their organization of the outing.

　　“讀萬卷書，行萬里路”向來是教育的兩個(gè)重要手段，為開闊學(xué)生視野，展示游泳教學(xué)成果，小學(xué)特于6月10日參加了在上海舉行的中外少兒游泳邀請賽。6月8日，由來自1到7年級的15名運(yùn)動員組成的“黑利伯瑞游泳代表隊(duì)”登上列車，開始征程。6月9日，登上了上海的地標(biāo)性建筑“東方明珠”，其中年齡最小的郭彥澤在帶隊(duì)老師的鼓勵(lì)下，勇敢的站在離地500多米的玻璃棧道上。6月10日，激烈的游泳比賽開始了，選手們與不同隊(duì)伍的隊(duì)員進(jìn)行競爭，展示出平時(shí)刻苦訓(xùn)練的成果，更展現(xiàn)了黑利伯瑞學(xué)子，上進(jìn)拼搏的體育精神。當(dāng)晚，全體師生在郵輪上為隊(duì)員張博恩慶祝了十歲生日，成為所有人難忘的記憶。6月11日，啟程返校之前，特意前往杜莎夫人蠟像館，尋找自己的偶像，與之合影。在四天的行程中，黑利伯瑞國際學(xué)校學(xué)子表現(xiàn)出的有禮有節(jié)、謙讓有序，受到了各個(gè)方面的贊揚(yáng)，無論是參觀景點(diǎn)，還是餐廳就餐，都帶去了一抹最溫和也最耀眼黑利紫。感謝魏老師和徐老師的帶領(lǐng)。

　　15 Haileybury students participated in the Shanghai International Schools’ Swimming Tournament

　　On the 7th of June, primary school students took part in Haileydesign. Haileydesign was a Maths department activity which focused on applying mathematical concepts inside the world of art and design. There were three activities that students rotated on the day. These were using colored string to decorate a picture, using seeds to decorate a picture and origami box making. The students had a great time applying mathematical concepts such as area and perimeter in their artworks. Our lower primary students were partnered with upper primary students on the day and it was great to see the collaboration and mutual assistance given by our students. Their artworks are now hung up in the open space area in the primary school. Well done to all the staff who helped out. Special mention should go to Ms. Sun who organized and oversaw the event.

　　6月7日，小學(xué)生參加了黑利設(shè)計(jì)院的活動。黑利設(shè)計(jì)院是一個(gè)數(shù)學(xué)組的活動，其重點(diǎn)是在藝術(shù)和設(shè)計(jì)世界中應(yīng)用數(shù)學(xué)概念。 當(dāng)天有三項(xiàng)活動讓學(xué)生輪換。 這些使用彩色線裝飾圖片，使用種子來裝飾圖片和折紙盒制作。 學(xué)生們在藝術(shù)作品中運(yùn)用面積和周長等數(shù)學(xué)概念的時(shí)間很快。 我們的小學(xué)低年級學(xué)生當(dāng)天與高年級小學(xué)生合作，很高興看到我們學(xué)生的合作和互助。 他們的作品現(xiàn)在掛在小學(xué)的展示欄上。為參與此次活動的人都做的很棒，應(yīng)特別感謝孫老師對此次活動的組織與策劃。

　　Finally, a reminder that next Saturday the 23rd of June is the KET examination for year 6 students at Tianjin and Beijing. We wish all of our students well and we hope they will do well in this internationally recognized English exam.

　　最后要提醒的是，6月23日的下周六6年級學(xué)生的KET考試，會在天津和北京舉行。 我們祝愿我們所有的學(xué)生都表現(xiàn)的好，希望他們能在這個(gè)國際公認(rèn)的英語考試中取得好成績。
